The Maison Eric Maître is a family champagne house, of quality and tradition, where knowledge is transmitted from father to son to preserve the heritage of Champagne Aubois. The Maître family owns this estate and has produced Champagne there since 1860. Henri Maître and his wife Margareta have pooled their talents and courage to develop the estate. Eric Maître perpetuated this work and made the operation a large Champagne house. His wife and three sons also put their passion for this work at the service of the operation, ensuring the family continuity of the house and its unique know-how.

The Champagne Eric Maître is the embodiment of the excellence of the Celles-sur-Ource terroir and allows the full expression of the Pinot Noir grown on the Côte des Bar. Celles-sur-Ource: a unique Champagne village

Located in the heart of the Aube, on the Bar coast, the village of Celles-sur-Ource is a major and privileged place of viticulture in the Aube and even throughout Champagne. Nearly 400 hectares of vineyards with the Champagne appellation are cultivated there by the village harvesters. Each year, the village produces more than three million bottles which are shipped all over France and around the world. Celles sur Ource is historically linked to Champagne. Indeed, already several centuries before our era, the Celts cultivated the vine in the valleys of the Haute-Seine. Above all, from 1156 the Cistercian abbey of Mores, very close to the village, allowed the development and improvement of viticulture in this region, since each abbey then had a tavern which offered its production to passing customers. Natural sparkling wine has existed there since the beginning of the 18th century under the name of “Saulte-Bouchon” and in the following century the champagne trade developed.

 

 

 

 

 

 An exceptional terroir:

The vineyard is located in the southernmost part of Champagne, in the heart of the Côte des Bar, on the slopes of the Ource and Seine valleys. The typicity of this terroir rests essentially on its perfect adequacy with the culture of Pinot noir (representing more than 80% of the exploited surface), which flourishes and ripens very well on these hillsides of the Jurassic. The chalky soil reverberates the rays of the sun propagating heat and light while the roots of our vines aged around forty plunge deep into this earth to draw the necessary water.

Our eight-hectare estate is made up of 100% Pinot Noir, the finest expression of which is guaranteed by the high quality of the terroir combined with that of our work. We cultivate our vines with the greatest care to allow their full development and to get the best out of it: very good quality grapes, essential for the creation of a great champagne of character.

To best respect this exceptional place as well as to protect the environment and your health, we orient our viticultural practices as much as possible towards sustainable agriculture.
